Top 5 Friday: Memorable Japan Moments
Sup G’s,
Sorry about the late post. Today I’ve been researching possible post grad options. And right it’s look like I’ll just end up doing more grad school. Where? Dunno.
Anywho, I owe you a Top 5 Friday don’t I? Well, I guess I’ll make this week (in a very post facto sorta way) my “Side Projects Week.” Since the first half of the week was all Bring Back Comedy related, today I’ll wedge some room for another side project: John Gibbons in Japan.
If you don’t already know, I spent a couple of weeks in Japan in the summer of 2008 and shot a bunch of footage. I’ve been making about a video per week for the last ____teen weeks now and I’m not even half way done. So today I’ll share you my…
Top 5 Most Memorable Japan Moments
(linked if the video is already done)
5. The Lock Up
The Lock Up was a really goofy Japanese Restaurant/Bar. It was “monster/dungeon” themed. A short summary of why I remember this so well is because two friends and I were sitting in our booth drinking and eating, then a magician comes in out of nowhere and gives us a magic show. During the magic show, all the lights go off and “Thriller” starts to play. The magician peaces out and then people dressed up in really tacky monster costumes come into our little booth and wiggle around like idiots. Doesn’t sound too memorable I know, but one of my friend nearly choked to death on a potato because he was loling so hard.
4. Great Buddha Statue
The only monument I’ve ever scene is the Saint Louis Arch. This thing, blows that out of the fucking water.
3. Retro Gaming Store
Watch the video. You can practically smell my nerd boner through the screen.
2. Otaku Districts
Granted the Otaku districts housed the gaming store, they also had a whole lot more. It was mind blowing walking around 10 square city blocks and seeing nothing but electronics. Anything that uses electricity could be found in these districts. You want to build a computer from scratch? Done. And I mean scratch; short of having to mine the fucking silicon ore yourself, you could find every single piece of every electronic device in these districts.
1. Hiroshima Peace Museum
I’m planning a special video for this one, so I’ll let that do the explaining.
And as a finale, here is a preview I made of things to come in the series. (The song is “Sound of the Wind” from “Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles” soundtrack for the Gamecube)
